Welcome to KidsCAN!

If you are here then your child will be visiting TU Delft as part of a school outing.

If this doesn’t sound familiar but you still want to participate in this study, please contact us and we’ll get back to you.
All children will be able to enjoy an exciting programme at the TU Delft. Part of the children will also be included in the KidsCAN measurement survey, depending on parental consent. The measurement session will be at our Delft location.
The school outing is a visit to the Industrial Design Engineering faculty of the TU Delft.
Several activities are included in the outing:
  • All children will get a tour of the faculty and some of the labs.
  • All will participate in a design workshop, giving them a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of using the right size on products.
  • If your child is included in the KidsCAN survey, he/she will take part in one of the three measurement sessions, together with 3-4 other children from their class, accompanied by a school volunteer. While being measured and 3D scanned, they will learn why this is relevant..
  • If your child is not participating in the survey, then he/she will join a measurement workshop, which gives your child a first hand experience in measuring and 3D scanning.
  • All children will receive a small token of appreciation at the end of the school visit.

What will the outing look like?

The kids that participate of the study will have a design workshop and a measuring session.

The "measuring session workshop" is for the kids who are not participating of the study.

This way, no kid will lack the experience of learning about how our measurements can improve the world around us.
What to expect from this measurement session?
As a participant, your kid will contribute to science and help improve the safety of products for children! Your kid will have a session along with other 4 classmates accompanied by a professor or parent from your school.

Our trained team of anthropometrists will use both manual instruments and 3D scanners to measure the head, hand, foot and body.

These scanners work by taking 360 degree photos, which means that they work with visible light and thus they are not harmful.
Before the measurement session we will ask for written Informed Consent from you as a parent. But don’t worry about it now because we will take care of it later when you register.
For more detailed information about the measurement session check out our Project Information Booklet (basis school)

Manual measurements

The anthropometrist will measure the proportions of the body, head, hand and foot by using anthropometric instruments.

Photometric Scanning

These scanners work by taking photos of the hand and foot. This scanner does not emit any radiation.

3D body scan

The participant goes in the body scanner and photos are taken from all directions to create a 3D model. It does not emit any radiation.
