What is the data used for?

By measuring your child, we can update the standards that are used to design products like bikes, shoes, and helmets to be safer and more comfortable for kids. These standards are set by organizations called NEN (Nederlands Normalisatie Instituut) in the Netherlands and CEN (European Center for Standardization) in Europe.

We'll use the measurements to create statistical summaries and send them to CEN, but we won't share any personal identifiable information. Designers and engineers use these standards and tools to decide what sizes to make their products.

DINED is a tool that lets designers look up measurement ranges and proportions from previous studies. The 3D models shown here are a combination of many 3D scans of children's faces, they do not show a specific person.

By using the measurements for the design of products makes the products safer and more comfortable for children. This can make a difference a product that works properly and is desirable. (illustration from thesis Jip Spijker, 2020)
